Brain Drain di Malaysia

Sektor yang kekurangan tenaga skilled workers di Malaysia :
- IT professionals (khususnya di Cyberjaya)
- Clinical researchers
- R&D Engineers
- Bio-technologist
- Oil and gas
- Construction
  Banyak perusahaan Malaysia yang memperoleh pekerjaan di luar Malaysia, sehingga butuh lebih banyak insinyur sipil/arsitek.
- Financial services
  Banyak perusahaan finansial Malaysia yang berekspansi ke LN. Suplai tenaga keuangan selalu dibutuhkan (akuntan/auditor).

Alasan pindah (menurut Manton Townend, managing director Manpower Inc) :
- Salary
- Lack of appreciation
- Lack of communication with employers
- Lack of career direction

Tantangan bagi industri high tech Malaysia :
- Posisi skilled workforce di Malaysia kebanyakan diisi asing, karena lebih murah mengimport skilled worker asing
- Mencari skilled workforce yang mampu mentutor tenaga lokal Malaysia
- Memulangkan para brain drain Malaysia

Saran-saran untuk kebijakan pemerintah Malaysia (hasil summit) :
- Fokus ke imigrasi dan skilled labour policy (contoh : Malaysia My 2nd Home Program, tax breaks) untuk menarik lebih banyak skilled workers ke malaysia (short-term)
- More funds for education, training, and R&D in targetted fields that’s commercially viable (long-term)
- Government should penalise companies that don’t have funds for upgrade employees’ skills or investments in human capital
- Government and companies should ensure staff’s satisfaction (eg. provide balance between work and social life)
- Increase opportunities for women to stay longer in the workforce
